Creativity For Kids Shrinky Dinks Review

I was asked by Lisa over at Creativity for Kids to review one of their Shrinky Dinks products. I had never played with or even seen Shrinky Dinks before so I was really excited to try them out. I picked the Monster Lab for Eli to try (& of course Lu). He's the type of kid who would spend hours coloring and cutting and pasting and just CRAFTING (hmmm wonder where he gets that? ;) )

Eli's ALL ABOUT gross, nasty just plain BOY stuff right now so I thought he'd enjoy making a MONSTER LAB.

Here's what came in our box:

  • a backdrop/stage of sorts

  • a pack of mini pipe cleaners, colored brads, glue dots and glue to put all the shrinky dinks together once shrunk

  • a pack of monster-y figures to color and shrink

  • a pack of colored pencils (LOVE Faber-Castell pencils)

  • directions for shrinking
My personal fav!
Look at those great colors!

Eli & Lu spread out all the shapes while I read about how to shrink all these dudes.

Then they got right on the coloring. There were A LOOOTTT of little peices to color!

I let them put their finished colored monster parts on the cookie sheet and placed them in the oven.

After just a few seconds, this is what I saw...Pan #2 didn't fair so well...apparently if you leave them in too long

(like seconds too long)

they bend too tightly and don't come undone

(Eli M-E-L-T-E-D down about the lost scientist!)

So we skipped ahead to the backdrop...We took the few pieces we had shrunk (3 pans) & just skipped the shrinking on the rest of the pieces (to avoid another meltdown) & colored & attached them.

The kids had a BALL putting the pieces together to make CRAZY SILLY monsters!
Big THANK YOU to Creativity for Kids for letting us try this out!
